Geert Van Hove appointed new CIO of Argenta

The Board of Directors of Argenta has appointed Geert Van Hove as a director and as a member of the Executive Committees of Argenta Spaarbank and Argenta Assuranties, subject to approval by the regulator. As Chief Information & Digital Officer, he will be responsible for the group’s IT infrastructure, architecture and applications, as well as their functioning and security. This mission includes creating a unifying digital vision for the Group and coordinating all digital activities. He initiates the appropriate level of digital technological synergies, coordinates investments and drive the development of digital skills and innovation.

He succeeds Dirk Van Dessel, who had been CIO since 2008.

Geert comes from Belfius, where as CIO he was responsible for the digitalization programme. Prior experience includes the telecommunications sector as CIO of Telenet. Geert Van Hove says of his appointment: ‘At Argenta, the customer is central. For me it’s an exciting challenge to help enhance this customer focus by developing a digital platform.’

Marc Lauwers, CEO: ‘Argenta faces the challenge of catching up on digitalization and of rethinking its service model in the process. In this area, Argenta still has major steps to take. We shall be investing heavily in a new high-performance IT platform, to be fully operational by 2018, and on which we will be able to go on to develop new digital services. Geert Van Hove has proved his capacities with, among other things, the Mobile First Digital Bank project, which took the Data News Award ICT Project of the Year Large Organisations. Argenta is convinced that Geert Van Hove is the right person to lead Argenta in meeting the digital challenge.’

Geert Van Hove starts work at Argenta on 1 March 2017.
